PAGADIAN CITY, Sept 10 (PIA)- Hundreds of broadcasters and stakeholders joined and planted some 500 seedlings at the simultaneous nationwide tree planting of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) dubbed "Oplan Broadcastreeing" at the hilly area of barangay Tinotongan in Tukuran town on Saturday.
Oplan Brodcastreeing is an annual tree planting activity organized by the KBP, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The participants composed of broadcasters from AM and FM radio stations, the 1st Cavalry Squadron, 1st Field Artillery Battalion, 547 Engineering Battalion, barangay officials and elementary students planted mahogany seedlings to show their love and care for the environment and help mitigate the impact of global warming.
Eva Molina, station manager of DXVV (Brigada News FM) joined the activity with 15 of her staff and broadcasters who wanted to be part of the solution to safeguard the environment.
"I am very happy to join the Oplan Broadcastreeing because as a citizen, it is my duty and responsibility to protect the environment through tree planting," Molina said.
Teresita Pintac, barangay health worker said she was glad and enthusiastic in joining the activity.
"Nalipay ug nadasig ako pag-apil sa pagpananom ug kahoy aron makatabang pagpanalipod sa atong kalikupan. Ang hangin nga giginhawa gikan sa kalikupan nga gihatag sa Ginoo, busa atong ibalik niini pinaagi pagtanom ug mga kahoy (I am glad and enthusiastic in joining the tree planting to help protect our environment. The air that we breathe is from the environment that is given by God to us thus, we will give it back by planting trees)," Pintac said.
Meanwhile, Melchor Coronel, chairman of KBP-ZDS chapter said the 'Oplan Broadcastreeing' is a noble initiative of the organization that seeks to contribute to the greening effort of the government by planting trees across the country.
He said that during extreme heat and rain, people seek shade and shelter under the trees but there are people who are hesitant to plant trees.
"This is just a small initiative but it help us remember that we are just borrowing from our Mother Nature, and we must return it to our future generation on how we received it. (RVC/GCC/PIA-Zamboanga del Sur)
