BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
CLIMATE OBSERVATORY
Shanghai will build a national climate observatory by 2025, according to a report in the China Science Daily newspaper on Wednesday.
The construction of the climate observatory was approved by the China Meteorological Administration. It will feature a multi-layered climate observation system for megacities to provide a continuous, all-weather and high-resolution climate service.
WAYS TO REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS
Chinese scientists have been working to explore technological possibilities to reduce greenhouse gases as the country presses ahead to peak its carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.
In some recent moves, researchers have designed the flow battery for better energy storage, proposed a new eco-friendly cooling strategy and tried to utilize microalgae to capture the carbon.
In the future, more clean energy can be efficiently stored through advanced energy storage technology, with the power grid transmitting the electricity generated from those energy sources to meet the daily electricity needs of the households.
USE OF CORTISOL
A Chinese research team has demonstrated that withholding perioperative hydrocortisone supplementation may be safe for some patients with pituitary adenomas, reducing the unnecessary use of cortisol.
The study was conducted by researchers at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and was recently published in the top-tier medical journal JAMA Network Open.
The results showed that withholding hydrocortisone was safe and not inferior to the conventional cortisol supplementation therapy for these patients, in relation to the incidence of postoperative adrenal insufficiency.
