BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
OFFSHORE WIND POWER
China's first deep-sea floating wind power platform set sail from Zhuhai in south China's Guangdong Province towards the waters of the southernmost Hainan Province on Sunday, according to the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).
The platform, named CNOOC Guanlan, is China's first offshore wind power project with a water depth of over 100 meters and an offshore distance of over 100 kilometers, said Yang Yun, the executive vice president of the CNOOC.
ANTARCTIC ICE TONGUE
Chinese researchers have disclosed that a tsunami triggered by last year's Hunga Tonga volcanic eruption caused the collapse of the Drigalski ice tongue front in Antarctica, according to a recent research article published in the journal Science Bulletin.
The powerful explosion occurred on Jan. 15 2022. The resulting tsunami, triggered by the eruption of the volcano, travelled over 6,000 km before hitting the coast of Victoria Land, Antarctica, said the article.
AI FOR SCIENCE
China has started the deployment of Artificial Intelligence for Science, a project to promote the use of AI in frontier sci-tech research.
Jointly launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the project will focus on key problems in basic disciplines, as well as research needs in key sci-tech fields, such as drug development, gene research and biology breeding.
