BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.16 percent to 3,240.06 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.13 percent higher at 11,579.91 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 981.1 billion yuan (about 142.66 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to semiconductors and photoresist led the gains, while stocks in the oil and gas exploitation sector suffered heavy losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.09 percent to close at 2,371.19 points Wednesday.
