MANAMA, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Bahrain announced Wednesday a high-tech training program for 200 locals as part of the country's efforts to be the regional hub for innovation and tech.
The trainees would be the first batch of students to be trained by the Reboot Coding Institute (Reboot01) in partnership with the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) and supported by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), the Bahrain News Agency reported.
The two-year program aims to prepare a new generation of highly skilled professionals, contribute to the technology sector's development, and bridge the tech knowledge gap across multiple industry sectors, it said.
As part of the National Economic Recovery Plan launched in October 2021, Bahrain's Telecommunications, ICT, and Digital Economy Sector Strategy seeks to establish world-class digital infrastructure in Bahrain, as well as attract big-tech companies to the kingdom, while increasing national employment in the sector from 30 to 35 percent by the end of 2023.
The EDB announced in October 2022 that investments, worth 98 million U.S. dollars, were attracted for the information technology sector during the first nine months of 2022, along with 14 prominent international companies, in which they are expecting to create 770 jobs.
