BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China:
SPACE TECHNOLOGY
The 2023 International Symposium on the Peaceful Use of Space Technology -- Health kicked off in Beijing on Saturday.
More than 100 scientists and scholars from home and abroad have been invited to the three-day symposium to discuss the development potential and prospects of the peaceful use of space technology, and to promote global exchanges and cooperation.
LIGHT SOURCE
The booster of China's high-energy synchrotron radiation light source successfully passed the acceptance test, with its key indicators higher than the design requirements and its overall performance reaching the international advanced level.
Like a supersized X-ray machine, it can accelerate electrons to near-light speed by three accelerators, including a linear accelerator, a booster, and a storage ring, and generate synchrotron radiation, which features strong penetrability and a high level of brightness, thus helping researchers observe microcosms.
SAND CONTROL
Northwest China's Qinghai Province has seen a reduction of 1.32 million mu (about 88,000 hectares) in desertified land and 1.59 million mu in sandy areas over the past five years, local authorities said.
Through years of efforts, Qinghai has identified a series of sand control technologies and governance models related to seedling breeding, sand fixation, afforestation, and grass cultivating in sandy areas.
