Scott Hanson was lauded for his coverage of last summer's Paris Olympics with NBC, and the longtime 'NFL RedZone' host could soon return to the broadcasting giant in a larger role.
Front Office Sports reported Thursday that Hanson, 53, is in talks with NBC Sports regarding Olympics and NFL coverage after his contract with NFL Media expired following the season.
Hanson has hosted 'NFL RedZone' since 2009, but his future in that role has become less certain as talks between him and NFL Media have reportedly stalled.
NBC is reportedly recruiting Hanson for a second gig as the primary host of 'Gold Zone,' a whiparound highlights show that debuted at the Paris Olympics.
The network announced Wednesday that 'GoldZone' would return for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, and Front Office Sports reported that Hanson could possibly host the show during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, as well.
Hanson drew praise for his energetic narration and analysis while hosting 'GoldZone' during the Paris Olympics, which at one point saw him cut his hand while banging it on a table in excitement.
'Scott brought his inimitable enthusiasm and energy to 'Gold Zone,'' Molly Solomon, president of NBC Olympic Production, told Front Office Sports in September. 'NFL fans loved watching him transfer his 'all-in' mentality from football Sundays to the Paris Olympics.'
As for NFL coverage, Hanson could be in line to fill in for Maria Taylor, who may leave her current role of 'Sunday Night Football' host to join NBC's coverage of the NBA next season, per the report. NBC has the broadcast rights to next year's Super Bowl.
