SUVA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Fiji considers protecting its coral reefs and supporting communities that depend on them through a new National Action Plan for Coral Reef Conservation.
The country's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, along with the Wildlife Conservation Society, held a multi-stakeholder meeting in Suva on Monday to develop this plan, reported Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.
The conference focused on combining scientific knowledge with local insights to create a clear and practical strategy.
The plan will address the protection of marine life, food security and the well-being of communities reliant on coral reefs, the report said.
The ministry said it will continue working with stakeholders to finalize the plan, which is expected to be presented at international forums later this year.
