Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 10 (ANI): Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw attended the inauguration ceremony of Tamil-AI at IIT Madras Research Park in Chennai on Tuesday.
Tamil-AI is a project to develop artificial intelligence tasks specifically for the Tamil language. Defo Tech Private Limited, a company operating at the IIT Research Park, Chennai, will conduct research in collaboration with the IIT Research Park Chennai.
Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually attended the inauguration ceremony online and said this initiative marks a new era in integrating cutting-edge technology with one of the world's oldest and richest languages.
'The launch of Tamil-AI is a path-breaking initiative, one that marks a new era in integrating cutting-edge technology with one of the world's oldest and richest languages. This is truly an honour for all of us. This initiative echoes the Prime Minister's vision of democratizing technology and making it accessible to all, across languages and regions,' he said.
Vaishnaw suggested that the launch of this project is part of the larger AI Mission. He reflected on the importance of this project in preserving culture through technology.
'The Tamil AI project, as part of the larger AI Mission, holds the promise to transform how artificial intelligence is used with Tamil. This is not just about innovation--it is about inclusion and cultural preservation through technology,' he said.
He also highlighted the growth of Tamil Nadu's electronic manufacturing sector.
'Tamil Nadu is witnessing remarkable progress. The electronic manufacturing sector is expanding rapidly, with several major projects being established. The Prime Minister's vision of making Tamil Nadu a global manufacturing hub for electronics is being realised step by step. Moreover, Tamil Nadu is set to become a hub for wheel manufacturing services, opening new doors in the industrial landscape,' Vaishanaw said.
Highlighting the practical application of Tamil-AI, Vaishnaw said, 'This Tamil AI initiative can also find practical applications in sectors like Indian Railways, where language inclusivity and AI-driven solutions can greatly improve services.'
Deputy Minister for National Integration of Malaysia, Saraswathi Kandasamy, also participated in the inauguration ceremony. (ANI)
